Celebrate Veterans Day by joining us for a salute to our armed forces. Many pieces of music have been inspired during times of war or have become symbols of self-reflection in coping with loss. Aaron Copland wrote his well-known Fanfare for the Common Man in 1942 in response to the US entry into World War II. In contrast, the Adagietto of Mahler’s 5th Symphony is one of the most love-inspired pieces of music ever written. We close with one of Tchaikovsky’s most popular works, 1812 Overture, written to commemorate the triumph of the Russians defending against Napoleon and his invading Grande Armée.
